Why Ethiopia?

Ethiopia is old, older than one can imagine. Once known as Abyssinia, It was a renowned and prestigious state for much of its history, which dates back 3000 years to the time of the legend of Queen of Sheba. King Solomon of Jerusalem is considered a direct ancestor of Menelik, and the Temple of Yeha.& dedicated to the God of the Moon, dates back over 2500 years. Even farther in the past, the first hominid (Lucy, known as Dinknesh in Ethiopia) dates from 3.2 million years ago, making Ethiopia the cradle of mankind. The people of Ethiopia are diverse: more than 83 ethnic groups with 200 dialects, different cultures and religions have lived together for many centuries. Ethiopia is the largest nation in the horn of Africa with an area of 1.098 million square kilometers. It is a land of extreme contrasts with altitudes varying from 4620 m. above sea level at the peak of Mount Ras Dashen to 120 m. below sea level in the Danakil Depression, giving a great variety of ecosystems to the nation, and requiring a variety of adaptive cultures.

Ethiopia is also a land of endemic species: more than 1000 species of plants, 16 species of birds and 7 species of large mammals are endemic to Ethiopia.
